It’s back! After “accidentally” destroying my website and moving to a new city I finally got some guitar chord posters back on my Etsy page.
I designed this poster back in the days I was teaching full-time, 30-40 students a week. Students would pick up traditional major and minor chords, quickly moving on to “Now what?” Sure, a bunch of chord shapes were nice, but how do you actually strum them in ways that sound like your favorite bands? And what about all those cool sounding chords your favorite band is playing that don’t sound like your beginner shapes?
“I don’t hear the Chili Peppers playing bar chords.” I recall a student saying. I showed them how those chords were broken into smaller triads and funk chords and their eyes lit up as they made the connection. Stuff like that is covered in this poster.
The poster is a collection of charts and concepts that were most inspiring to them, theory that got them excited to practice because they saw the point it. Yes, the Circle of 5ths is important, but not to players in this advanced beginner zone. They want to play, not memorize a system of sharps and flats!
(But don’t scratch the Cycle off your To Do List.)
Who needs this poster???
- Advanced beginners who know basic chords and want to make sense of rhythm, and next-level chord shapes.
- College Students who need lessons on their dorm wall!
- Any student who wants quick chord and rhythm reference nearby while practicing.
There are other lessons on this site that will supplement information on the poster. Check it out!
